Le plancher tells the true yet incredible story of a work of art miraculously found on a farm in the Pyrenees. The floor was carved in the 1970s by a farmer from Béarn, Jean Crampilh-Broucaret, known as Jeannot. In a life full of traumas and thwarted destinies, Jeannot, a recluse and a recluse, tried throughout his short life to build himself and to exist. In 1971, after the death of his mother, he carved 208 words on rough wood, a cry of pain and revolt. He died at the age of 33, of hunger and loneliness.
This raw work shook up the art world: collectors, psychoanalysts and writers, including Perrine Le Querrec, who wrote about it in 2005.
Nicolas Degremont plays Jeannot in a one-man show, accompanied on cello by Catherine Fleau and directed by Frédéric Cherboeuf.
Performed on a faithful replica of the floor, we imagined this show as a work of art in which the text, music and lighting plunge the audience into Jeannot's inner storm.
Powerful and poetic, Le plancher is a sensory experience that questions marginality and oblivion.
Because art survives pain, we wanted to turn this dark work into a hymn to life and creation.
Recommended for ages 15+, performance in a farm shed. Refreshments available on site.
