Exposition YOANN MERIENNE La racine et la feuille

The FIAA art centre is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the "Root and Leaf" series by painter and sculptor Yoann Mérienne. The paintings and sculptures on show were produced over the last ten years. In this series, the painter questions the very act of artistic creation by mixing reinterpretation and experimentation, but also by blurring the lines between painting and sculpture. Among other things, the series pays homage to the so-called "pompier" artists of the late 19th century. Their style was characterised by meticulous realism, grandiloquent historical or mythological subjects, and idealised theatrical staging. This abundant imagery has been used in a multitude of more recent works (peplums, video games, comic strips, etc.). Mérienne takes up this artistic trend in her own personal, innovative and frontal way.
