72000 LE MANS
The comic strip Le Mans, la cathédrale des Plantagenets (Le Mans, the Plantagenets' Cathedral) portrays the construction of St Julien's Cathedral in the 12th century through the eyes of a young stonemason. Published by Libra Diffusio, it plunges readers into the atmosphere of the construction site for the first time, and introduces them to the personalities who built this majestic edifice.
To mark this exceptional publication, the Diocese of Le Mans is organising a launch party open to all on Friday 26 September 2025 from 7pm. Cartoonist Denoël, author Pascal Mariette and storyteller Jacques Gouin will be in attendance.
The diocese of Le Mans has been involved in the design of the comic strip since the launch of the project, contributing to the writing of 2 historical focuses at the end of the book and providing illustrations through the diocesan Sacred Art Department.
A place of prayer, Le Mans cathedral appeals as much to the general public as to heritage lovers and those seeking meaning. The diocese of Le Mans is delighted with the attachment of the people of Sarthe to Saint Julien's cathedral, underlined by its election as the most beautiful cathedral in France in 2022, and wishes to promote it and help as many people as possible to discover its history.
The evening's programme includes
- Speeches
- Presentation of the comic strip by the authors
- Free wandering
- Signing sessions
