Philippe Claudel's "Compromis" - A fine, subtle and gritty comedy
COMPROMISE

Two thirty-year-old friends in an empty flat. One is a mediocre actor, the other a failed playwright. The former is selling his flat and has asked the latter to be present at the signing of the compromis, to reassure the buyer. Because although he writes very bad plays, he still has a reassuring face. That's his great quality.
We wait for the buyer. So, buyer or sucker? While we wait we talk. We flatter, we mock, we tease. Little by little it slips away. We hurt ourselves by saying things we've been holding back for a long time. And eventually the buyer arrives, who will witness a no-holds-barred settling of scores between the two friends. Will he remain a spectator, become the referee or end up being the only victim?
A fine, subtle, gritty comedy.
