72000 LE MANS
from 18h00 to 19h30
Giuliano della Rovere was Pope from 1503 to 1513 under the name of Julius II.
He was one of the great promoters of the Renaissance. Among other things, he commissioned Michelangelo to decorate the vault of the Sistine Chapel.
Apart from the pontificate of Adrian VI (1522-1523), the Medici family gave two sovereign pontiffs to Christianity: Leo X (1513-1521) and Clement VII (1523-1534).
It was the triumph of Raphael under Leo X and the drama of the Sack of Rome under Clement VII that, according to André Chastel, marked the intellectual death of the Renaissance.
