On our farm at Saint-Mars sous Ballon, which is fully certified AB (animals, meadows, trees, hedges, vegetable garden, orchard), you'll discover a natural way of raising cattle that respects the environment, the well-being of farm animals and wild biodiversity, both flora and fauna. As well as Limousin cattle rearing, we'll be sharing our passion and commitment with you. The Limousin is a hardy breed of cow, appreciated for its beef quality.
We are members of the "Ferme pédagogique 72" network.
Our workshops :
- What is a bovine? Or the story of an herbivore-ruminant. Visit the farm, meet the mother cows and their newborns, care for the animals (hay), reproduction and births, chat with visitors about animal husbandry. Visit the farmyard and other farm animals (donkeys, for example, and other small animals in 2023).
- Why do we farm? The difference between wild, domestic and farmed animals. What purpose do farm animals serve and why? What is the difference between extensive, rational and intensive farming?
- What is "sustainable development"? What 'small' and 'big' things can we do? (awareness-raising and practical) Biodiversity, sustainable development, respect for the environment: insects and animals (nest boxes, drinking troughs, insect shelters), plants, ponds, water, wind, hedgerows, local species - maintaining and preserving them... Waste, energy and water management... Compost, wood bark, sawdust...
- What is permaculture, subsistence farming, agroforestry, the edible forest? Immerse yourself in the world of Mother Nature
- What is the history of the soil at Saint-Mars sous Ballon? Journey 100 million years back in time
- Manual activities (with a supplement of €1 to €2). Theme can be defined with teachers. Market garden/plant/animal activities
