The building was constructed in 1832 for lime production. The access ramp was used to transport the limestone to the "gueulard", the upper part of the kiln, where stone, fuel and wood were loaded in alternating layers. The 800° firing required to calcine the stone lasted 3 to 4 days. The lime collected through the three holes in the lower section was used to improve cold soils, and was used in masonry and paper manufacture by tanners and chamois workers.
