The name Plantagenet city given to Old Mans in 2003, aims to assert its identity.

From Antiquity to the 20th century, from its built heritage to its parks and gardens, from its museums to the rivers that flow through it, Le Mans offers visitors and residents alike all the diversity and richness of a multifaceted heritage.

Bordered by a Roman wall dating from the end of the 3rd century, the Plantagenet City, dominated by its cathedral, forms a homogeneous whole over 20 hectares.

Le Mans has been awarded the "Ville d'art et d'histoire" (City of Art and History) label, and boasts a unique architectural heritage. In fact, the Roman wall is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status. The menhir, the Roman walls, the cathedral, the hundred or so timber-framed houses, the Renaissance residences, the cobbled streets lined with wheel chasers, will transport you back in time... While the 19th and 20th centuries, the heart of the city centre and the department stores, with their 20th century heritage label, are an invitation to shop and relax on the terrace.
