René's covered market was built in 1535, thanks to Jacques Hamelin, who obtained the right to hold covered markets, fairs and markets in the village from Françoise d'Alençon. They are still at the heart of the town's life. They were partially demolished in 1847 when the road running alongside them was built. They were rented out until 1932. The halls narrowly escaped demolition. In 2000, the commune of René restored them.
