A museum dedicated to clog-making located near the Forêt de Perseigne.

A tribute to forestry workers and the rural world. In 1851, in Neufchâtel en Saosnois, a small village near the Perseigne Forest, there were 156 clog-makers for 1,700 inhabitants. It was a local speciality! In the early 20th century, there were still 81 clog makers for every 1,000 inhabitants. Inaugurated in 1988, La Maison du Sabot et des Métiers d'Antan (The House of Clogs and Trades of Yesteryear) features an audiovisual presentation of various woodworking trades. More than 700 tools and objects on display take an hour to immerse visitors in the working conditions of our ancestors. In this eco-museum, we find clogs with several small heels to crush chestnut bogues more easily, very smooth clogs for walking on sand, or city clogs for walking easily on cobblestones. Clog makers are not the only ones represented. You'll also find all the tools used by carpenters, shoemakers and lumberjacks...
The museum is open from 5 June to 25 September 2022 on Sundays and public holidays from 3pm to 6pm.
