Entering the world of Grégoire Courtin is like strolling through the fascinating décor of a collector's home.
It's a place full of emotion, designed by this enthusiast who feeds off objects from the past that he stages in an authentic way.
Located in the heart of the village, which is home to almost twenty second-hand goods dealers and art galleries, the former hardware store has been restored to its former glory, with its bouquets of brushes and feather dusters, its soap boxes, and even its patches and other everyday objects - nothing is missing!
The surprise is still to come when you cross the back shop and its small garden. You then enter the fabulous museum of old shops, and the scenography is breathtaking. There's the old Danteaux hat shop dating back to 1880, with its headgear of all shapes and sizes; the Peltier colour merchant dating back to 1900, with its silk, coconut and metal brushes, sheet felts, floor runners and other treasures wrapped in their original paper; and further on, the colour charts, pigments and pencils from the Palette d'Or.
We are moved by the mail, wills and cash accounts of these local businesses, which Grégoire has reconstructed with patience and passion. Setting up a cabinet of curiosities was a logical next step for this incorrigible nostalgic. Stroll through the soft light of this fascinating labyrinth. Here are fossils under a globe and many other marvels mischievously displayed in this new Mecca in the Rue Nationale.
