CONFERENCE as part of the Photo Season at the Abbaye Royale de l'Epau.
For more than a century, from 1810 to 1940, colonial powers, including France, exhibited human beings by presenting them as savages or monsters. More than a billion and a half visitors came to see 35,000 exhibits around the world. Jonas Missaye will be sharing his commitment and his artistic approach at this conference. Through his photographs, he questions the representation of identities and the repair of memory, while celebrating the diversity of peoples and cultures. His aim is to give a face to those forgotten by history. His photographic work, at the crossroads of art and memory, is part of an essential approach: restoring humanity to the indigenous peoples exhibited in the human zoos of the 19th century.
