JMFrance present Jelly Jazz: Two jazzmen on a trip to New Orleans.
New Orleans gave its name to traditional New Orleans jazz. At the crossroads of several cultures, this emblematic and timeless musical movement was nourished by Caribbean, African and European influences.
From an early age, the two friends Léon Le Nair and Jean-Baptiste Drevet developed a taste for this music by listening to records by Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Fats Waller on an old phonograph.
Their duo continues this tradition by paying tribute to its greatest artists: Louis Armstrong, Buddy Bolden and Jelly Roll Morton, the self-proclaimed "inventor of jazz". It moves through the rich and contrasting scenery of New Orleans, in search of its legendary musicians who are as flamboyant as they are mythical.
From the banks of the Mississippi to Bourbon Street, accompanied by the swinging or Creole rhythms of their slightly vintage instruments (on stage, the jazz guitar dates back to 1946), it's a pleasure to wander alongside these two talented improvisers.
