Lavaré developed in the Middle Ages with the foundation of a priory and a parish church; however, the village did not expand much under the Ancien Régime. Today's architecture and town planning reflect the village's dynamism in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with its public buildings and housing characterised by the use of brick.
