Come and discover this friendly little village of Le Grez, named after the nature of the soil (Le Grès), with its many views over the countryside and the Sillé forest.
In the past, the church and priory depended on the Couture abbey in Le Mans. Various localities are named after former lords: Antenaise, Salvert, la Villière.
Along the way, the Morfondue cross (Maltese cross) marked the boundary of the Gué-Lian Templar commandery (near Fresnay-sur-Sarthe). The north of this "mountainous" commune is covered by part of the Sillé forest, while the centre is covered in hedged farmland and is largely given over to livestock farming. Finally, the slope to the south, with its beautiful views, is a popular place to live.
In the village, the church of Saint-Nicolas with its stained glass window dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael and the remarkable roussard cross in the cemetery are reminders that the parish of Le Grez was on the pilgrimage route to Mont-Saint-Michel.
Also worth a visit, if it is open, is the primary school (l'Ancienne école) which, thanks to the efforts of a few volunteers, has preserved all its school furniture, inkwells and old books - a place that is sure to bring back many childhood memories.
