South of Le Mans, this walk will enable you to discover the heritage of Allonnes, from antiquity to the 20th century, and the banks of the Sarthe.
At the gateway to Le Mans, Allonnes takes its name from "al aun", a term of Celtic origin indicating its proximity to the river. The town was urbanised in the 1960s and 1970s with the construction of large housing estates and became part of the Le Mans metropolitan area. This shady trail takes you from the Sarthe towpath, part of the Boulevard Nature, to the archaeological remains of the temple of Mars Mullo.
What to see along the way:
-The towpath, the Chaoué lock and Port Belle-Eau;
- The Château de la Forêterie (private);
- The Monné solar power station and methanisation plant;
- Le Bois Joli;
- The alleyway of the former Perrières house;
- The Town Hall, designed by Jean Le Couteur, typical of the 1970s;
- The Tour aux Fées archaeological site and the remains of the temple of Mars Mullo.
