A beautiful, safe walk, ideal for families, with many points of interest.
The 33km greenway linking Montval-sur-Loir to Bessé-sur-Braye is ideal for hikers and cyclists. Completely safe and easy to negotiate because it was built on a former railway line, the greenway winds its way along the banks of the Loir, offering great views of the river and its hillsides.
As a family, you can explore a number of leisure and heritage sites, as well as some of Sarthe's best-known skills:
- the Rotonde ferroviaire in Montabon,
- the Varennes lake at Marçon (swimming and water sports in particular),
- La Chartre-sur-le-Loir and its famous flea markets,
- the winegrowers of the Vallée du Loir, including Domaine Lelais in Ruillé-sur-Loir, at the foot of the greenway,
- the Moulins de Paillard art centre in Poncé-sur-le-Loir,
- the village of Poncé, with its Romanesque church featuring remarkable frescoes, and the gardens of the Château de Poncé,
- the Coteaux glassworks, a workshop open to the public,
- the Château de Courtanvaux in Bessé-sur-Braye.
If you fancy a break, there are several picnic areas along the green route. There are also campsites nearby (Marçon, La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, Bessé-sur-Braye). A bike hire and repair service (The Green Bike) is located halfway along the route at Ruillé-sur-Loir.
