At the start of the Armorican Massif, the Saut du Serf and Rochebrune sites offer a culminating viewpoint and an exceptional panorama of the Sillé national forest and the surrounding bocage.
The Saut du Serf or Saut du Cerf site takes its name from a legend. It tells of an unfortunate serf (peasant) who, "pursued by a lord's howling pack, invoked Notre-Dame and leapt over the two sides of the hill, thus escaping certain death". It could also have been a stag and not a serf.
The name Rochebrune comes from the rocky bar at this point.
The nature of the rock differs between Rochebrune (Armorican sandstone) and Saut du Serf (Sainte Suzanne sandstone).
These two sites are very popular with hikers and rock-climbers.
