Classified by decree on 10 January 1995, this 1000-hectare area extends over four communes and three départements: Saint Léonard des Bois and Moulins le Carbonnel (Sarthe), Saint Cénéri le Gérei (Orne) and Saint Pierre des Nids (Mayenne). The charm of this site lies in its steep-sided valleys. The altitude remains modest: the heart of the region rises to 216m with the hills of Narbonne and Haut Fourché in Saint Léonard des Bois, while the highest point is Mont des Avaloirs (417m in Saint Pierre des Nids).
