A 5-hectare park, the Jardin des Plantes du Mans (or Jardin d'Horticulture) is located near the town centre and is laid out in two parts.

Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand, creator of Parc Monceau, Parc Buttes-Chaumont and Parc Montsouris in Paris, drew up the plans for these parks between 1867 and 1870.

The Jardin des Plantes was created on the initiative of the Société d'Horticulture de la Sarthe. Owned by the town of Le Mans since 1881, it has been a listed site since 1945. It comprises a French-style section with a rose garden, terraced mall and bandstand, and an English-style section with winding paths leading to a pond planted with trees. This garden boasts a fine collection of oak trees and some remarkable trees, and evokes the varied sites of the Sarthe with bucolic charm. The two sections are linked by an underground rock passage, the Passage Ragot.

Sculptures by Louis Derbré and Suzanne Jean can be seen here.

A children's garden has been redeveloped.
