A bucolic garden on the banks of the Sarthe, with a magnificent view of the Roman wall and the Plantagenet town of Le Mans.

The Jardin des Tanneries is located in the centre of Le Mans, on the left bank of the Sarthe, at the foot of the Plantagenet City and its Roman walls.
The garden hasn't always been a little patch of greenery. In the past, there were many tanneries in the area, where leather was prepared.
Remains of the medieval walls are still visible. You can also see the last pillar of a former masterpiece of the city: the X-shaped bridge. This bridge, which was once used by departmental trains, crossed the Sarthe to reach Les Halles station. It was blown up in 1944.
A guinguette is open in summer.
